Our Projects

Activities in Vancouver

Dada Shiilabhadrananda, RS Vancouver, assisted Margii brother, Samkalpa, in distributing 51 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, energy bars, chocolate wafers, liquid yogurt tubes, and 8 oz water bottles to the homeless in downtown East Side Vancouver. Samkalpa performs this service using his own funds twice a month on his fasting days. Join us to be part of this effort to bring care and support to others.

Sunday Dharmacakra in Vancouver

Ananda Marga meets every Sunday for Dharmacakra (collective meditation) at 7294 12th Avenue, Burnaby, BC at 4 pm. Sometimes there is Akhanda Kiirtan or a seminar class so the program would start earlier. Our DC is followed by a potluck meal. Anywhere from 5-8 Margiis usually attend the DC.

Ananda Kanak Master Unit

In 1987 the founder of Ananda Marga, Shrii P. R. Sarkar, emphasized the need to create self-sustainable rural units that he named Master Units. Our members in Canada took up the challenge to establish Master Units and purchased the land and house of Ananda Kanak. The Master Units (MU) serve the community and act as the spiritual and social hub of the neighborhood. Amongst the main goals of Master Units is to achieve self-sustainability in food, clothing, housing, education, and medical, and to encourage research in all of these aspects in an ecological, cooperatively run project. Those goals require community engagement and the cooperation of several people. The first goal will always be to be self-sufficient with food. On our Master Unit Ananda Kanak, Acarya Dayashiilananda Avadhuta spends the spring, summer, and autumn doing organic farming. The MU has 72 acres of land, mostly covered with dense forest, and about two acres of cultivated land. The main crops are carrots, potatoes, corn, a variety of beans, and pumpkins. The house is traditionally built with wooden logs and is over 150 years old. It can accommodate smaller groups of 5 – 12 people for retreats and weekend programs. The quiet environment is a perfect setting for going deep into meditation. If you would like to visit Ananda Kanak or enjoy a meditation program there, please contact us, and we will arrange a suitable time. During the coldest winter months (November to April), there is no farming, and our activities are shifted to Ottawa, Gatineau, and Toronto.
